14 Reasons Why You’ll Love Vietnam and Should Go NOW
To be honest, Vietnam was never really on my travel list. I know it’s close to Taiwan and I really wanted to visit Ha Long Bay, but it just doesn’t sound as exciting as Thailand or the Philippines.
The only reason I went there was I wanted to travel during my summer vacation, and at the time it was more dangerous to go to the Philippines and I’ve been to Thailand. And now, I am glad that I visited Vietnam because it’s now my favorite country in South-East Asia. Now, let me tell you why!
Insanely Cheap Price for Everything
For backpacker hostels, it only costs $4-$6 a night to get a bed in a nice hostel. Sometimes, they even have pools or are located on the beach. If travel on a shoestring isn’t really your style, then you’ll love this place even more. A 4-star hotel costs around $50, and for the high-end hotels, you pay around $80 a night. Like, how insane is this! I remembered a bunk bed would cost $20 in Sydney. So it doesn’t matter if you’re a budget or luxury traveler, your money goes a long way in Vietnam.
Deeper Insight of the History
Plenty of historical sights were bombed during the Vietnam War, and it’s surprising to see how much they’ve changed since the war. There are museums where you can see photographs and documents that allow you to think of the war from a different perspective. This trip to Vietnam also made me realize how little I knew about the country. I had never learned the history; only the war was mentioned in high school. The people and the culture seemed almost forgotten by the world.

They are always smiling, cheerful, and happy to help.
The Wild Variety of Street Food
Vietnamese food is more than rice. It combines local ingredients, French cuisine, and Southeast Asian spiciness. Must-tries include Pho (noodle soup), Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich), and Goi Cuon (spring roll). If you’re more adventurous, you can try duckling egg, Balut, a fertilized egg incubated for 14 to 21 days, boiled or steamed, and eaten from the shell.
The Old Town
Vietnam has a large number of well-preserved old towns, temples, and buildings. You can wander in the alleys and feel like it’s 1960. Or you can even join a tour to see My Son Ruins, which has been standing in the forest for more than a thousand years.

There are so many things to do in Vietnam that you’ll never be bored. Hiking, trekking, zip lining, canyoning, swimming, and much more to offer!

In Northern Vietnam, there are many local tribes located in the mountains, each with different cultures. It’s pleasant to experience the unique culture and explore the surroundings.

With over 3,000 km of coastline, there are plenty of beaches you can discover. Most of them are secluded or only local, with no signs of tourists. If you prefer an urban vibe, Nha Trang and Mui Ne are both great choices. No matter what you prefer, you can always find a perfect beach for you to lay down and bathe in the sun!
